This thread is dedicated to the good ol’ classic games Blood and Blood 2! this thread includes One Unit Whole Blood (incl. Cryptic Passage and Plasma Pak) with Blood 2 : The Chosen and it’s expansion The Nightmare Levels! Also included a tutorial to run these games successfully on Windows XP! so

Installation Tutorial [On Windows XP]:
Since this is an old game, running it on Windows XP is almost impossible and doesn’t work, but i have gotten it to work great and it will work for you too
Extract the image from the RAR’s, mount the image using Daemon Tools and install to:
C:\Games\Blood\
There’s a tool called DosBox to run old game on your machine, i have included here a modified version of DosBox: Dosbox Daum Cafe, download it here:

Now i will write a short tutorial to make your life easier when running blood:
Install Dosbox, then go to the directory where it was installed and open this file with notepad: dosbox.conf
Scroll down to the end where it says autoexec, and add the following lines, example:
[autoexec]
# Lines in this section will be run at startup.
mount c c:\games
c:
So what is this for?
since Dosbox is an emulator, you need to mount the drive where your old games are installed, that’s ofcourse why i suggested the above directory!
the line "mount c c:\games" will automatically mount the directory "games" in you’re c drive to automatically access the list.
the "c:" simply goes to the c: drive (because default in dosbox is z
After you’re done, run dosbox and you should see in the DOS-like window it says C:\, try typing "dir’ and hitting enter then you will see a list of files/dirs inside the Games directory. (note that we mounted C:\Games, not C:\, so the root is the Games folder)
Now we want to configure the sound for blood, so in dosbox, type "CD blood" to access the blood directory and then type setup.exe because we need to set up the sound configuration for blood.
Now you see a blue screen with options, choose SOUND SETUP and hit enter.
1) Go to "Choose sound FX setup"
2) Choose "Sound Blaster"
3) When asked more options, go with the defaults! (the ones already marked) and keep hitting enter
Now for the music:
1) Choose "Wave Blaster"
2) Go with the default configuration.
How do you test if they work? There are 2 options to test sound fx and music in the sound setup menu, try them out and see the result (I had clean sound )
Now after you’re done, exit the sound setup. You can choose "Save Settings and run blood" to play after exit or simply press ESC to save settings and quit.
To play blood when you’re in C:\, type "CD blood" without quotes, to access the directory and then "blood" to play.
TIP: If you want to play in Full Screen mode, open the dosbox configuration file and change these values from False to True, example:
fullscreen=false
fulldouble=false
would become
fullscreen=true
fulldouble=true

Installation Tutorial:
Before i start with this small tutorial, there’s a thing in the NIGHTMARE LEVELS expansion setup that it does not allow changing directories, it will automatically start installing to C:\Games\blood2\
Back to the tutorial, Extract the files to [c:\games\blood2] after that double click on Blood2.exe and you will see a screen with options to change before playing the game.
The issue with blood2 is that the menu keeps disappearing and flicking when entering, now the usual fix for this is playing Software mode (changed from display settings) but i don’t recommend that because it ruins the game graphics.
The fix for this is to go to the "Advanced" section and enable these 3 options:
1) Enable Optimized Surfaces
2) Enable poly gap fixing (slower)
3) Enable Triple Buffering
You can also try the "Disable directx 6 commands" option
After this i suggest using 1280 x 800 x 16 resolution and D3D render, found in "Display" options.
Now the game should run fine, but one minor thing remains which is the menu might be flickering very fast and the problem here is that there is no FPS limit in blood2 so the obvious fix for this is to set "MaxFps" to "30" or sometimes "60" but a bug in blood2 is that even if you change this in autoexec.cfg and even make it Read-Only, upon entering a new game and going back to the menu it will flicker. To fix this, everytime you run blood, get the console down (by pressing `) then typing MaxFps 30

Installation Tutorial:
Nothing really special has to be done to play the expansion, only problem is that the setup will start installing to c:\games\blood2, doesn’t ask to change directory that’s why i suggested installing blood2 there in the first place.
So,
1) extract anywhere on system
2) install the game
3) copy the crack inside the crack folder to c:\games\blood2 and run
4) play
